Antonio “Tony” Aquino, age 59, of Miami, Florida, passed away on August 3, 2026, while traveling abroad, a fitting reflection of a life defined by adventure, discovery, and a love of exploring the world.
Tony dedicated his life to serving others. At just 14 years old, he began his journey in law enforcement as a Police Explorer with the City of Homestead Police Department’s Explorer Post 47. What began as a youthful passion for service grew into a lifelong calling. Driven by an unwavering commitment to his community, Tony became a Homestead Police Officer and faithfully served for 30 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he rose through the ranks to become Commander, earning the respect of his fellow officers and the admiration of the community he so proudly protected.
His career was marked by numerous awards, commendations, and accolades that recognized his courage, leadership, and dedication. To many, Tony was a hero in uniform. To those fortunate enough to know him personally, he was so much more: a devoted husband, a loyal friend, a mentor, a father figure, a protector, and a source of steadfast strength, wisdom, and compassion.
Yet Tony’s greatest legacy extends far beyond the badge he wore. It lives on in the countless lives he touched, guided, and inspired. He mentored generations of officers, encouraged and uplifted young people, and generously shared his time, knowledge, and heart with anyone in need. His influence will continue to be felt for years to come by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tony is survived by his loving husband, Carlos Miguel, with whom he shared 27 wonderful years; his mother, Sonia; his sister, Diana; his niece and nephew, Tatiana and David; the children of his heart, Joe, Ruth, Alex, and Edgar; and his beloved grandchildren, Savanah, Sophia, Luna, and Ezekiel. Along with them, he leaves a wide circle of family members, friends, colleagues, and devoted Explorers whose lives were enriched by his mentorship, kindness, and love. All will forever cherish his memory and carry forward the compassion, guidance, and generosity he shared so freely.
We thank Tony for a lifetime of service, friendship, and the example he set for us all. Though his watch has ended, his legacy endures in the lives he touched, the people he inspired, and the community he helped build. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
Dear Carlos and family, I am completely heartbroken about Tony. He was the best man at my wedding and such a dear friend from the very beginning. Carlos, I am so glad I had a chance to meet you through Tony. You were so very welcoming and accepting. I had the pleasure of knowing Tony for 28 years and he always greeted me with his familiar smile and a big bear hug, no matter how much time had passed. Tony was just an incredible guy with such a positive outlook in life, and a great sense of humor. I am honored to have met him and to know that he inspired so many others throughout his lifetime. Spending time with Tony was easy, because he always made you feel at home. When I had fears about a medical issue last year, he provided words of comfort and hope. Carlos, please know that I am holding you close in my thoughts and I am with you in spirit. Sending you lots of love, hugs and my deepest condolences to you and all his family. It’s been more than 30 years since the last time I have seen Tony. I have never forgotten his word of encouragement nor lessons shared. It’s because of his influence I have lived with passion and resilience. I have dedicated myself to influencing others and have worked with youth has often as possible. I wouldn’t have gone on to do any of it without his influence. I am forever grateful!
My dearest Tony... I can't even begin to process the news, as I have followed your many posts on happy family moments, trips and all the fun you brought to those around you. It is sad to lose friends and loved ones and for the years that we knew each other and fun memories shared during our high school ROTC years, color guard competitions and beyond, you were both. I can't begin to say how very sorry I am to have lost you at such an early age, and how hard it will be for your husband and the rest of the family. It is always harder for us that stay behind... but for you, now it is an eternity of light, laughter, peace and eternal rest. March on, dear friend... you will be missed.
