David Jonathan Benedict
January 12, 1957 – January 2, 2021
Miami, Florida – David Jonathan Benedict, 63 of Miami, Florida, passed away after battling liver cancer on January 2nd, surrounded by his family.
Born on Scranton, PA, his family moved to Port Washington, New York, and graduated from Paul D. Schreiber High School in 1975. He attended Geneseo State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Arts majoring in English in 1978.
He worked for over 35 years as a Chef at the Hotel Intercontinental of Miami preparing the food for many banquets and many of Miami’s important events. David was beloved and respected by all his co-workers and always ready with a smile or a sarcastic joke. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially his New York Yankees. He never missed a chance to see a game on TV for his favorite team, wearing all his Yankee gear.
David also enjoyed car trips with his family, especially visiting with his siblings in New York and traveling to Maine for vacations. He was an avid reader and always had numerous books on his nightstand.
He will be sorely missed by his wife Dolores Montejo-Benedict of 29 years and his two children George Parkhurst Benedict and Terse Marguerite Benedict. He’s survived by his siblings, Margaret Benedict Bowler of Nassau NY, Susan Benedict Boell of Floral Park NY, Judith Benedict Arnold of Buffalo NY, Caroline Burpee Frances of Huntington Station NY, Sheryl Burpee Dluginski of NYC, NY and Donald Burpee of Bayville, NY. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held for the repose of his sole at St. Mark Catholic Church on Friday, January 8th at 11:00 am, located at 5601 S. Flamingo Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33330.
