Obituary for Delia Margarita Díaz

                     94 years old
Resident of Hallandale Beach, Florida

            Born in Camaguey, Cuba

Died at her residence in Hallandale Beach as consequence of a massive stroke.

Survived by her five children, Vivian Levine, Enrique Díaz, Federico Díaz, Lourdes Díaz and Richard Díaz and grandchildren, Yamberli Cruz, Jesús Valentino, Amanda Díaz, Karli Díaz, Angelica Díaz, Gabriella Díaz, Jacob Díaz, Enrique Díaz Jr. and Lucy Díaz and great grandchildren Tyler Cruz and Miranda Cruz.

Predeceased by her husband Federico M. Díaz and her parents Juan Gutiérrez and Delia Jiménez and her brothers Juan Ramón Gutiérrez, Jorge Gutiérrez, and Roberto Gutierrez and grandchild Brian Díaz.

Mrs. Díaz was an elementary school teacher for 27 years at School #15 in Paterson, New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Montclair State University in New Jersey.

Delia Margarita lived a long and productive life.  Raised in her parents’ dairy farm, La Misericordia, in Camaguey, Cuba she acquired a deep love for nature which she later applied to her pursuit of the arts.  At a young age of 18 she taught art classes to adults.

She married the only love of her life, Federico Diaz, and they were happily married for 63 years.

She left her native homeland of Cuba fleeing the horrors of the Castro Revolution.  Together with her husband and four children she immigrated to the United States. Her fifth child was born soon after in New Jersey. Despite having five children to raise she was determined to contribute to her family’s economy.

She studied at night and earned a teaching certificate from the State of New Jersey and a master’s degree in Education.

Her outstanding beauty was only equal to the beauty and kindness of her heart.   She immensely loved going to work and teaching a population of low-income immigrant children who needed her patience and understanding.  She took pride in not having missed one single day of school in 25 years! Mrs. Díaz’s favorite school memories were the field trips she would take every year with her second-grade class. She would always say that her years at School #15 in Paterson, New Jersey were the best days of her life. She retired with her husband on an ocean-side condo in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Funeral services will not be held as per the wishes of the deceased.
